400 Days Chain of Events - The Official Walking Dead Game Guide - IGN (2025)

The Walking Dead: 400 Days DLC contains several intersecting storylines over the span of 400 days. Wrapped up in this DLC episode is a criss-crossing Chain of Events. Below you will find a chronological storyline for 400 Days, and all of the references to past seasons and intersecting storylines.

SPOILERS ABOUND

Introduction

As the game begins, the pit stop is shown before the zombie outbreak. In it, a man is getting gas for his truck, and gets in with a small boy - This may actually be Kenny and Duck before everything went to hell.

The scene fast forwards to 400 days later, and the pit stop is overrun with Walkers. Nearby, a bulletin board with a map of the area is littered with missing persons and other notices. Five missing persons stand out - Vince, Wyatt, Russell, Bonnie, and Shel. These five people all have a part to play in the 400 days since the outbreak began.

Day 2 - Vince

Vince's story begins as he pulls the trigger and shoots a man. It is presumed he is doing this to help his brother. After leaving the scene of the crime, Vince races down an alley that turns out to be on the other side of the street from the Everett Pharmacy from Season 1. This puts Vince in Macon at the start of his journey. Because of his location, there has been some speculation on his relation to Glenn, who is first introduced in the game at that same pharmacy.

In the next scene, Vince finds himself on a prison bus stuck in the middle of traffic. As it so happens, his bus is stuck in the same area that the other characters' stories take place in, centralized around a pit stop. This pit stop can be seen at least once in every character's story.

As the outbreak finally hits the area around the prison bus, Vince looks out the window to see two figures escaping several Walkers. The figures are actually Shel and Becca.

Shel and Becca run past the prison bus

As things begin to escalate, the prison bus driver abandons the bus and runs away, but this won't mark that last time he is seen.

Day 41 - Wyatt

Wyatt and Eddie are seen fleeing past the pit stop from an altercation. It is unknown who Eddie shot, but it appears to have incurred the wrath of a man named Nate who chases them in his truck. After firing several shots, Wyatt manages to break one of the headlights of Nate's truck.

Wyatt shoots out a headlight

Wyatt and Eddie escape into a foggy area, and after arguing, accidentally hit someone. This someone turns out to be the prison bus driver from Vince's story.

Not knowing if the man was alive or dead, Wyatt and Eddie play Rock Paper Scissors to decide who checks on him. If Wyatt wins, he stays in the car, and after finding the keys, is assaulted by the man in the truck, Nate. Wyatt manages to escape after punching Nate's hand into the car door, wounding him.

Nate says hello to Wyatt, and gets his hand bashed into a car door

If Wyatt is the one to venture outside, he finds a still warm body of the bus driver, but is unable to help him for long as Nate shows up and fights Eddie, who drives off leaving Wyatt to fend for himself and leave the body of the bus driver.

Day 184 - Russell

Russell is seen walking down a long empty road with some sort of overpass or sign far down. This road may look familiar, and it is. As Russell sees a truck approaching, he is given the option to dive for cover alongside a decomposing body. This body is actually the same person shot by Lilly in Episode 3 of Season 1. If Carley was shot, her corpse will be there. It can also be Doug if the player experienced it in Season 1.

Carley makes her cameo in the 400 Days DLC

As the truck pulls up, it turns out to be the same truck that attacked Wyatt, driven by none other than Nate himself. If the player shot out a light on the car in Wyatt's story, the truck will still be damaged. Nate's hand will also still show the wounds inflicted in Wyatt's Story.

Wyatt's actions live on in Russell's story

After arriving at the very familar pit stop, Nate and Russell dodge fire and make their way to the back of the place.

A Camper later used by Shel can be seen in the background

A Walker lies near the back door that may or may not be interacted with. This Walker is the very same police officer bitten by one of the convicts in Vince's Story - now with a screwdriver in his eye.

Not sure who decided to shove a screwdriver in his face

Entering the pit stop, Nate and Russell get the jump on an elderly couple, who shout seemingly random things claiming Nate's been here before, which he denies. Whether or not Russell chooses to stick around, Nate decides to off the couple.

That will certainly leave a mark

Day 220 - Bonnie

Bonnie and Leland take shelter from the storm under a water tower, and are later met by Leland's wife, Dee. Dee appears to have found something, and it soons become apparent she took what wasn't hers. Bonnie runs for it, only to fall down a slope leading to the prison bus Vince was on, and the cornfield on the other side.

200 days later and traffic is still bad

Before Bonnie can run to the cornfields, she is attacked by a very familiar Walker with a screwdriver that Russell did not kill.

For a guy who likes to crawl he sure gets around.

Bonnie ducks into the cornfield to escape her pursuers, who turn out to be members of Shel's group, and may even include Shel herself. Exiting the cornfield, Bonnie accidentally kills Dee and throws the flashlight she was carrying away. Bonnie escapes the area with or without Leland.

Day 236 - Shel

The only character to actually live in the pit stop, Shel and her group have holed up here, but only some time after Russell and Nate stopped by around day 184, and before Bonnie escaped them in day 220. After viewing the stories of Russell and Bonnie, things like blood stains and missing flashlights become all too clear.

They should probably be glad they don't know the story

Shel's group also has some connection with Season 1, as half the people are surviving members of Vernon's Cancer Remission group that crossed paths with Lee, and stole his boat.

While they may not know what caused the blood stains in the diner, they did find two suitable "watch dogs" in the old lady who Nate killed, and the prison bus driver who escaped only to be run over by Eddie and Wyatt.

At least they still have a starring role

When a stranger is caught, the group argues and sneaks in a confirmation that they stole Lee's boat, and the group broke down leading to Vernon's death. Depending on who you left to guard the boat in Season 1, they will make an offhand comment about taking the boat from Kenny, Ben, or stealing it while the boat was unguarded. If Shel decides to spare the stranger, they return and kill Boyd, leading to Shel's decision to either flee in the camper or kill Stephanie for stealing.

Day 400 - Epilogue

Anewcomer named Tavia collects the photos from the bulletin and spies a map that comprises the central area that many characters' stories took place around.

Most characters spent the better part of 400 days circling the pit stop

Tavia finds the location of the camp that all five main characters have come together to form. It is uncertain how long after Shel's story that they came together, or if the group formed over time. It is also uncertain if important details are known by everyone (Wyatt knowing Nate was with Russell, or Bonnie knowing if Shel's group tried to kill her)

Another central landmark can be seen not far from the camp - the water tower that Bonnie began her story in.
